In 2004 Tatyana founded an online shop from scratch, which today is used by over 6 million visitors daily in Poland, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia.
Tatyana was an English teacher and founded the business at age 28 in her Moscow apartment while on maternity leave.
At home caring for a one-month old, she began thinking a lot about how difficult it was for her—and other young mothers—to shop for clothes for themselves with a newborn at home. Bakalchuk decided to solve her problem by creating Wildberries. Her husband, Vladislav, left his job as an I.T. technician that year to join her. At first, she bought clothing in bulk from German e-commerce site Otto, took photos of the products and resold them online. She hired couriers to deliver items in Moscow and surrounding areas, or used the state postal service to ship to other regions in Russia.
Now, she’s a mother of four and with 44 she is Russia’s richest woman.
The overall sales of Wildberries exceeded 3.1 billion euros in 2019. According to analysts of Forbes magazine, Wildberries is worth approximately $1.2 billion.
