Giglio Group closed 2017 with a Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of € 67 million. In the first 9 months of 2018, the Company’s GMV amounted to €53 million, 15% more than the same period in the previous year.
THE COMPANY’S STRATEGY AND BUSINESS MODEL
Over the years, Giglio Group turned from a “media company” into a “digital company”, thus defining the concept of e-commerce 4.0. More specifically, Giglio Group operates through two business lines: Ibox Digital and Ibox Distribution.
Ibox Digital is a leader in the global e-commerce segment and competes with the biggest online retail operators in the Lifestyle sector. Thanks to its experience as Digital Service Provider, the Company supplies B2B and B2C platforms and services, having realised more than 50 projects for major international monobrand clients in the Fashion business.
Ibox Distribution is the first European Business to Business firm entirely devoted to the management of online sales for both in-season and off-season collections, serving some of the world’s top digital retailers. Today the project has expanded worldwide and benefits from well-established collaborations with the world’s top marketplaces. Furthermore, together with Ibox Digital, Ibox Distribution has developed a proprietary technology consisting in a acceleration platform that allows single brands to connect with about 200 international marketplaces according to their needs and strategies. The evolution of this technology shall make possible the integration of wholesalers’ online distribution into the project, thus offering benefits both in term of time to market and cost optimisation.
As far as distribution is concerned, Giglio Group created a model based on four logistics hubs: Northern Europe, USA (New Jersey), China (Shanghai) and Hong Kong. The Ibox Distribution division works with 78 platforms worldwide, managing 46 brands. For 2019, the Company is aiming at entering the Canadian, Latin American and Indian market, after having sealed recently a deal with Souq, the United Arab Emirates’ main digital platform, thus entering also this new territory.
THE CHINESE MARKET
Thanks to its remarkable expertise, Giglio Group developed an important project in China offering brands an incredibly short start-up period for online sales. Through the creation of an e-commerce website specifically localised for the Chinese market and the creation of brands’ “shop in shop” on China’s major marketplaces (both full-price and off-price), the Company ensures an acceleration in the construction of an extensive distribution network. Moreover, benefiting from its own media properties (TV and Digital) developing more than 180 million contacts per year, together with its T-commerce activities on We Chat, Giglio Group created and launched an innovative business model that integrates e-commerce and social media and is capable of promoting the consumers’ brand awareness, instantly translating the video contents broadcasted on the web or on the mobile into sales. Today, thanks also to its ICP license allowing it to directly operate in China as B2C provider – with its own local team coordinating the whole e-commerce supply chain, from strategy to digital marketing and customer service, and a logistics hub in Shanghai’s free trade zone –, the Company ensures extremely optimised start-up costs and a quick time to market for the brands’ e-commerce sales.
Giglio Group’s new business plan for 2019 is focused at increasing its presence on the Chinese market from a current 4% to more than 30% over the next 5 years.
