Christian Vitta attended the Cantonal School of Commerce in Bellinzona, graduating in economics from the University of Friborg, obtaining his doctorate in 2001.
At a professional level, Christian Vitta has worked as an assistant at the USI (Università della Svizzera Italiana) in the Faculty of Economics, a researcher at the Institute of Economic Research also working as a Director for a consulting and auditing company based in Lugano.
His political career began at the municipal level in 1996 with his election to the City Council of S.Antonino. In 2000 he was elected Mayor, a position he held until April 2015.
At the cantonal level, he was a member of the Grand Council from 2001 to 2015. He was the group leader in the Grand Council of the Radical Liberal Party from 2007 to 2015 and President of the Management and Finance Committee in 2012. He was also a member of the Committee of the Association of Municipalities Ticinesi (the people of Ticino canton), the Federal Lotteries and Betting Commission, the Supervision Commission on the training of local authorities, of the Committee of the Association of Swiss Municipalities and the Ethical-Legal Commission of the Health Network project.
Since April 2015 he is the Councillor of State and Director of the Department of Finance and Economy.
